Vietnamese-born Quynh Chau of Plano receives ‘Women that Soar’ award

Quynh Chau overcame a rough childhood. She was separated from her family in Vietnam and lived in an orphanage. When she was 12, she reunited with her four brothers and they escaped from their Communist home. They spent 13 days in a rickety boat at sea before finally being rescued and placed in a refugee camp in Malaysia.

With the help of faith organizations and philanthropies, Chau was reunited with her father in Arkansas who had already been sponsored to come to the U.S. She married Wesley Stone, and they are the parents of two daughters. The family lives in Plano.

Chau’s had success in the business world. But what she’s most passionate about is giving back. She is the founder of Source of Hope, a nonprofit that feeds the homeless.

For her perseverance and compassion, Chau was one of 12 women honored with a Women that Soar Award Sunday at a dinner at the Fairmont Hotel. Other recipients included Wynonna Judd (who performed), Nina Vaca, Monica Martinez, Anita Hawkins, Dr. Jan Spivey Gilchrist, Dr. Nashwa Al Ruwaini, Terry Bentley Hill, Dr. Daphne McQuarter, Catherine Monson, and Amy Poehler and Meredith Walker for Smart Girls.

Founded in 2007 by Gina Grant, Women That Soar is a Dallas-based media and content development company. Learn more at womenthatsoar.com.
