A week ago, a fellow AM decided to join my new department as they felt like they weren’t appreciated by their past department in another institution (YT is a director, surprise surprise). Without hesitation, I gave him the position even though we had 10+ applications that were already reviewed. Ended up nearly doubling his past pay and put him in a position of leadership.

I bring up this example as someone in Reddit posted about how helping each other/being self sustainable results in sacrifice.

To that I say bullshit.

We have more than enough agency and power to keep our brothers and sister prosperous as given the example above, and trust me, this isn’t an isolated incident. Helping one another out results in increased financial and social gain.

I encourage all of you to actively help one another out. Peers must support peers and mentors must establish a stronghold for their mentees.

Nepotism fights nepostism and we have a lot of catching up to do.
