The #1 Problem Facing Asian men and why Asia's effeminate Asian man media is dangerously counterproductive.

  • administrators

    Introduction

Lots of you rightfully complain that Western media portrays Asian men unfairly as scrawny and effeminate. You rightfully believe that these effeminate portrayals hurt us in dating, at school, at work, and on the streets. These problems are well documented and proven by studies.

In the next breath, many of you uphold Asia’s girly media as one of the answers to our problems. That girly media presents an even MORE effeminate portrayal of us. Apparently, this giant contradiction isn’t enough to wake many of you up. I wrote this to disabuse you of your delusions.

    Caveats

I know there will be detractors claiming “but but but but…not all…”

    I know.

    ● it’s not all Asian men. It’s a huge percentage of you.

    ● It’s not all media that promotes feminine men. It’s a huge percentage that is large enough for the Chinese government to pass anti-sissy pants idol policies.

    ● It’s not all women who avoid feminine / nerdy / scrawny / looking men. It’s the vast majority of women. See the studies below.

And, don’t tell me about your random friend or your personal anecdote. There are always a small percentage of exceptional examples. They are statistically meaningless. You have no case unless you have studies contradicting DECADES of research about what works and what doesn’t on a mass scale.

Factors for male attractiveness to women

Masculine men = sexually attractive to women

    ● We designed two computational models to replicate human facial attractiveness ratings.

Strikingly, both models produced estimates of facial attractiveness that were indistinguishable from human ratings.

    ● This provides novel evidence for the importance of averageness and sexual dimorphism, but not symmetry, in human judgments of facial attractiveness.

    ● Sexual dimorphism refers to the differences between men’s and women’s faces. Men’s jaws, brows, and noses are larger than women’s (Enlow 1990), and facial pigmentation patterns are dimorphic (Bruce et al 1993). With some exceptions (Perrett et al 1998), participants prefer masculine men’s faces to feminine men’s faces, and especially feminine women’s faces to masculine women’s faces (O’Toole et al 1998; Penton-Voak et al 2001

    Lesson: Women desire masculine faces.

In men, attractiveness was predicted positively by masculinity, symmetry, averageness, and negatively by adiposity. In women, attractiveness was predicted positively by femininity and negatively by adiposity. Skin colour did not predict attractiveness in either sex.

Lesson: Attractive men are masculine and NOT fat [adiposity = fat].

Men and women living in New Zealand and California completed five studies regarding human physique and sexual attractiveness. In Studies 1–3, women rated images of male stimuli and, in Studies 4–5, men rated female stimuli. In Study 1, women in both countries rated mesomorphic (muscular) and average male somatotypes as most attractive, followed by ectomorphic (slim) and endomorphic (heavily built) figures. In Study 2, amount and distribution of masculine trunk hair (chest and abdominal) was altered progressively in a series of front-posed male figures.

masculinity contributes more to male facial attractiveness than does femininity

The results of male facial attractiveness studies are inconsistent: Some have found that adults prefer more masculine-looking male faces, whereas others have found that adults prefer more feminine- looking male faces (cf. Brown et al., 1986; Cunningham et al., 1990; Dunkle & Francis, 1996; Grammer & Thornhill, 1994; Johnston et al., 2001; O’Toole et al., 1998; Penton-Voak et al., 2001; Scheib et al., 1999, with Dunkle & Francis, 1990; Little et al., 2001; Little & Hancock, 2002; Penton-Voak et al., 2003; Perrett et al., 1998; Rhodes et al., 2000). These differences in findings have inspired several researchers to provide theoretical explanations for the discrepancies (e.g., Johnston et al., 2001; Little et al., 2002; Penton-Voak et al., 1999; Perrett et al., 1998). In an effort to understand what makes a male face attractive, we examined whether methodology (i.e., stimulus differences) could account for these inconsistencies. The results from our studies strongly suggest that using female facial averages to dimorphically transform male facial images creates faces that do not accurately reflect the relationship between attractiveness and masculinity– femininity.

The results from the masculine-biased and feminine-biased male facial averages in the average-biased condition were consistent with studies that used unaltered facial images (i.e., masculinity was positively and significantly associated with male facial attractiveness) and were inconsistent with studies that used dimorphically female-transformed facial images.

Our results clearly point in favor of masculinity contributing more than femininity to attractiveness in men.

Lesson: Women desire masculine faces. Previous studies claiming feminine male faces are attractive are flawed due to a flawed methodology.

It has been hypothesized that female orgasm evolved to facilitate recruitment of high-quality genes for offspring. Supporting evidence indicates that female orgasm promotes conception, although this may be mediated by the timing of female orgasm in relation to male ejaculation. This hypothesis also predicts that women will achieve orgasm more frequently when copulating with high-quality males.

We found that women reported more frequent and earlier-timed orgasms when mated to masculine and dominant men—those with high scores on a principal component characterized by high objectively-measured facial masculinity, observer-rated facial masculinity, partner-rated masculinity, and partner-rated dominance. Women reported more frequent orgasm during or after male ejaculation when mated to attractive men—those with high scores on a principal component characterized by high observer-rated and self-rated attractiveness.

Lesson: Women desire masculine and dominant men.

Attractiveness and dominant appearance each account for variance in sexual experience beyond that explained by pubertal development, but dominance is the better predictor. This result is consistent with our expectation that dominant looking men have earlier coital opportunities than submissive looking men.

Dominant faces are likely to be handsome or muscular, oval or rectangular in shape, and with prominent as opposed to weak brow and chin. Submissive faces are often round (pudgy) or narrow (skinny), less attractive, and have glasses.

    How physically masculine is enough?

Men and women at Northwest University (n = 631), Xi’an, China, were asked to rate the attractiveness of male or female figures manipulated to vary somatotype, waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), secondary sexual traits, and other features. In study 1, women rated the average masculine somatotype as most attractive, followed by the mesomorphic (muscular), ectomorphic (slim), and endomorphic (heavily built) somatotypes, in descending order of preference.

Lesson: Chinese women rated athletic/built male bodies as most attractive. Second most attractive was muscular/body builder lite. The most unwanted bodies were slim/scrawny bodies followed by fat bodies.

    Physicality and attractiveness

Three sets of photographs of men’s bodies were shown to raters who estimated either their physical strength or their attractiveness. Estimates of physical strength determined over 70% of men’s bodily attractiveness.…Contrary to popular theories of men’s physical attractiveness, there was no evidence of a nonlinear effect; the strongest men were the most attractive in all samples.

Indeed, research has shown that women are attracted to men with cues of physical formidability.

Franzoi & Herzog [39] surveyed women and asked them what features they were attracted to in men; the results showed that women particularly valued components of upper body strength, e.g. ‘muscular strength’, ‘biceps’. Similarly, Jones and co-workers [40] showed that men whose bodies were rated as more ‘masculine’ were preferred to men whose bodies were rated as ‘feminine’, and a similar study using composite images confirmed that manipulating men’s bodies to appear more masculine increased their attractiveness [41]. Similar work shows that women generally prefer figures representing mesomorphic body types (i.e. muscular bodies) [42,43].

we could find no evidence that there exists a sizeable population of women who prefer physically weaker men when evaluating male bodies.

The results show that most male bodily attractiveness stems from cues of formidability and physical strength, and that strength increases attractiveness in a linear fashion. The rated strength of a male body accounts for a full 70% of the variance in attractiveness. Additional variance (up to 80%) can be explained by adding the premium women put on height and subtracting the penalty put on additional body mass unrelated to physical strength.

ratings of strength themselves are known to privilege taller men and penalize obesity [47].

we found no evidence that extremely strong men were less attractive. The strongest men in our sample were the most attractive (figure 2).

Male against male dominance strongly correlated to female attraction

Recent evidence suggests that in sexual selection on human males, intrasexual competition plays a larger role than female choice.

    ● In a sample of men (N = 164), we sought to provide further evidence on the effects of men’s physical dominance and sexual attractiveness on mating success and hence in sexual selection. Objective measures and subjective ratings of male sexually dimorphic traits purportedly under sexual selection (height, vocal and facial masculinity, upper body size from 3D scans, physical strength, and baseline testosterone) and observer perceptions of physical dominance and sexual attractiveness based on self-presentation video recordings were assessed and associated with mating success (sociosexual behaviour and number of potential conceptions) in a partly longitudinal design.

analyses revealed that physical dominance, but not sexual attractiveness, predicted mating success.

    ● Physical dominance mediated associations of upper body size, physical strength, as well as vocal and facial physical dominance and attractiveness with mating success.

Lesson: Male dominance against other males may be more important than sexual attractiveness for women’s mate selection. Intrasexual competition = men displaying dominance over other men. This behavior is quite similar to the way mate selection works with many animals.

This is why possessing physicality, strength, dominance, height are so important not just in dating, but in gaining respect on the street, at school, at work, inside of a club.

Both genders care more about face than body

    ● both sexes wanted a mate with a nice face for a long-term mate, which is likely because the face is a cue based on structural properties related to health. Sex and mating-duration differences on preferences for attractive faces and bodies were robust to differences in measurement technique.

facial attractiveness was prioritized in long-term mates

In short-term mates, bodily attractiveness soared to the top of the priorities list, followed by facial attractiveness, and trailing far behind were the other traits.

    ● Our results are highly consistent with prior work.

    ● both studies utilized exclusively American college students.

Lesson: Face and body are super important to sexual attraction. Everything else is insignificant.

    ● One hundred twenty-seven men and 133 women were shown images of 10 individuals of the opposite sex. Participants rated the images for their attractiveness for either a short-term relationship or a long-term relationship. Images of the face and the body were rated independently before participants were shown and asked to rate the combined face and body images. Face ratings were found to be the best predictor of the ratings of combined images for both sexes and for both relationship types. Females showed no difference in ratings between short- and long-term conditions, but male ratings of female bodies became relatively more important for a short-term relationship compared with a long-term relationship.

Ratings of facial attractiveness were a better predictor than ratings of bodily attractiveness of the rating given to images of the face and body combined. This suggests that facial attractiveness is more important in people’s evaluation of overall physical attractiveness than body attractiveness and therefore implies that facial attractiveness is more important than body attractiveness in human mate choice decisions.

    ● In conclusion, facial attractiveness seems to be more important than body attractiveness in judgments of human physical attractiveness for both sexes.

Factors that inflict Penalties on Men

Men Get Penalized for being anti-masculine

    ● Research demonstrates that men too face backlash when they don’t adhere to masculine gender stereotypes — when they show vulnerability, act nicer, display empathy, express sadness, exhibit modesty, and proclaim to be feminists.

“nice guys” were evaluated as less competent and less hirable for managerial roles. One experimental study found that male managers in consulting who tended to advocate more for their team than for themselves were judged to be lower in agency and competence and more likely to be considered for job dismissal.

    ● What happens when men display modesty? Research demonstrates that men who were more humble in expressing their qualifications were evaluated as less likeable, less agentic, and weaker than modest women. Similarly, men in the hiring process who were more self-effacing were evaluated by potential employers as lower in competence and less desirable to hire, as compared to self-effacing women.

    ● research shows that men are more likely to be harassed when they work in male-dominated jobs and are perceived as too feminine.

Lesson: Being anti masculine eg being perceived as vulnerable [effeminate, scrawny, short, weak, glasses, etc], humble, nice guy, invites abuse.

    Glasses Penalty

Teenage boys were judged to look either dominant or submissive in facial appearance. They were also rated on attractiveness and pubertal development. Dominant looking boys are more likely to report coital opportunity than submissive looking boys, net of attractiveness and pubertal development. Physical features including height and a “mesomorphic” or athletic physique are correlated with leadership among humans (Stogdill 1974). Human faces are reliably judged by raters to look dominant or submissive, with remarkable agreement across cultures (Keating et al. 1981).

Judges were told to rate each face on a seven-point scale of dominance-submissiveness (1 = very submissive, 4 = neutral or undecided, 7 = very dominant).

Only wearing glasses had a significant or sizable effect, with men in glasses scoring on average one point less dominant than other men.

Note: Glasses inflicts a loss of 14% of attractiveness rating.

Attractiveness and dominant appearance each account for variance in sexual experience beyond that explained by pubertal development, but dominance is the better predictor. This result is consistent with our expectation that dominant looking men have earlier coital opportunities than submissive looking men. Lacking data on female choice, we cannot say if dominant looking men have more sexual access because women give it to them, or because the men obtain it for themselves, or for both reasons (Small 1992). Possibly women are especially attracted to dominant looking males, assuming from facial cues that these men are capable of protecting them or of providing resources if they have children; or, women may enjoy the popularity of consorting with a man who is salient in the status hierarchy. Alternatively. dominant looking males may obtain sexual experience through their own superior efforts to exploit sexual opportunities, as in the prosaic situation of a high school dance, where the assertive boy immediately seeks a female partner while the shy boy is too bashful to ask for a dance, much less a greater intimacy. Dominant appearance and attractiveness are imperfectly correlated, so it is worth asking what makes one boy look dominant while another appears submissive? Qualitative inspection of portraits, especially comparing boys judged attractive but not dominant, and vice versa, supports the generalization by Mazur et al. (1984): Dominant faces are likely to be handsome or muscular, oval or rectangular in shape, and with prominent as opposed to weak brow and chin. Submissive faces are often round (pudgy) or narrow (skinny), less attractive, and have glasses.

Note: 80%+ of Asian men = skinny and glasses. This alone explains a lot of the dating/marriage problems facing Asian men.

Lesson: Glasses inflict a 14-15% penalty on looks. eg If your face is a 6/10, you become a 4.5/10 with glasses [average to below average]. If you are an 8/10, you become a 6.5/10 with glasses [hot to average]. In other words, the penalty is huge.

    Nice guy penalty

Scientifically, nice (heterosexual) guys might actually finish last. A study published in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin recently found that while men were attracted to nice-seeming women upon meeting them, women did not feel the same way about men.

when women perceived their male partner to be responsive, they were less attracted to the man.

In other words, it appeared that in an initial encounter men liked nice ladies; women thought nice guys were kind of lame.

Study Finds That Men Like Nice Women, But Not the Other Way Around
    http://www.newsweek.com/study-finds-men-nice-women-not-other-way-around-261269

Lesson: Don’t take this study too literally. You can be nice, but you should be nice out of choice instead of being nice because you have no options while taking abuse. This is similar to the “bigger man” concept. No one respects a weakling who THINKS he’s the “bigger man” when backing down eg the typical “nice guy”. However, people often respect and defer to a powerful person who punishes an aggressor but stops short of killing [or whatever else] them by being the bigger man.

Standards of attractiveness are universal / Beauty is NOT in the eye of the beholder / Attractiveness is consistent across cultures.

    ● Newborn babies prefer to look at attractive faces, says a UK researcher, suggesting that face recognition is hardwired at birth, rather than learned.

    1) Is beauty merely in the eye of the beholder?

NO. Contrary to common assumption, adults and children agree about who is and is not attractive, both within and across ethnicity and cultures. Instead, There seem to be universal standards by which facial attractiveness is judged.

    1. Do we judge books by their covers? YES Adults and children judge other adults and children more favorably than unattractive adults and children, even by those who know them. Furthermore, Adults and children treat other adults and children more positively than unattractive adults and children, even by those who know them.

There was a time when slimness was the absolute prerequisite for urban Japanese women…That aesthetic went out when the health and exercise boom came

In stark contrast, it’s the men who want to be slender, vulnerable and protected. Young males between the ages of 18 and 30 make up the slimmest segment of the population and the ideal fashion weight as decreed by the apparel industry is 57 kilograms, or about 125 pounds, for a height of 175 centimeters, or 5 feet 8 inches. Many men try to adhere to that figure and some claim they want to be even skinnier.

Your predictable excuses and my rebuttals

You are a Chinese nationalist who hates Koreans

No. I hate ALL girly media in East Asia. I hate jpop, kpop, Lu Han, TFBOYS, HIT-5, F4, Top Combine, M.I.C., UNIQ, and Fahrenheit.

I hate pigtails of the Qing Dynasty, Peking Opera, Shaolin monks whacking their nuts with heavy objects, nerdy thick accented goofy Asian male news reporters on CGTN, the extreme white worship in their MMORPG games such as Honor of Kings and Arena of Valor.
I hate anything that hurts our image for no good reason. The only reason we write about BTS/kpop is visibility, your insistence that it’s beneficial despite being extremely damaging, and knowledge. I had to look up the other Chinese boy bands because I never heard of most of them.

Women are screaming for girly media stars though.

Yes, they’re screaming for those SPECIFIC stars - not the typical nerdy Asian man on the street who looks ridiculous with a bowl cut and glasses.

Women went crazy for the singer, Prince. Did being a silly bell bottom pants and blouse wearing manlet channeling Mariah Carey into his performances help other men Black men? No.

Women went crazy for the singer, David Bowie. Did having frail bodies and wearing silly costumes help other white men? No.

Girly media is a gateway drug to better representation

Just like jpop was a gateway drug from 40 years ago? Today, you suffer the highest out marriage rates of Asian women to men who openly and loudly insult and degrade your entire race to produce a psychologically broken Eurasian apocalypse. www.halfasian.org has thousands of examples and the website is created by a Eurasian man with a racist white father and self hating Asian mother.

In contrast, white men did not use a “girly media gateway drug” since the birth of Hollywood or their music industry. They STARTED out with masculine white men.

Black men did not use a self imposed “girly media gateway drug”. They are now famous for being hyper masculine.

Media, more than anything, can be changed instantly over night.

Clearly, Asian men can also avoid any silly “girly media gateway drug”.

Girly media type bodies are hot. Women love them

No they don’t. Here’s a chart. The non-Asian women love girly media music, lyrics, but NOT looks. The only exception are Asians and Africans.

    P2EhaMn.jpg

What are Asian men solely lacking in? Masculine oriented looks eg it’s called fashion in this chart

If you are still confused, refer to the section “Factors for male attractiveness to women”.

Whatever love Asian women have for girly male idols is largely cultural and contradicts the study under section “How masculine is enough?”, where women wanted athletic/built bodies.

But look at these successes - look at all 11 amwf I found over the past 20 years!

Think like an accountant. Look at BOTH the revenues [gains] and expenses [losses]. While you celebrate some random isolated amwf due to girly media, there are millions who are rejected by women because they fail to meet minimal levels of masculinity to attract women.

Promoting girly media representation and such archetypes for Asian men is like telling women to be fat because chubby chasers will love you. Chubby chasers are rare. Most men avoid fat women. For every happy chubby chaser + fat woman couple, there are millions of lonely fat cat ladies.

Oh, it’s different in East Asia. Women there want alternative masculinity

    Wrong again.

See the section “How masculine is enough?”

Chinese women in China rated athletic/built bodies as most attractive. Muscular/body builder lite was second most attractive.

Slim/scrawny and fat bodies were rated the worst.

Even in the home of the Hallyu Wave, many South Korean female celebrities often say their ideal man is some atheletic/built White celebrity.

    Conclusion

The #1 problem for East Asian men is their widespread and extreme lack of masculinity. Asian men are most commonly perceived as non athletic + nerdy + girly + scrawny + frail + short manlet + extreme beta nice guy. These images are deeply hurting you in dating, work, school, and literally, getting you robbed and killed in real life.

This problem affects people who never met you personally because whether on the streets or on the tv screen, they see most Asian men fit those unflattering images.

A normal person would adapt by becoming MORE masculine. Yet, many of you have decided that girly media is your savior. Many of you decided that becoming even LESS masculine is the answer to the lack of masculinity. That is extremely counterproductive.

    ● Women desire masculine dominant men. Women do not like effeminate men.
    ● Your coworkers respect masculine dominant men. Your coworkers bully effeminate men.
    ● School bullies don’t dare to attack masculine dominant men. School bullies attack effeminate men.

The answer, as proven by the indisputable science in this post, is to be MORE traditionally masculine.
